Temperance Brennan, forensic anthropologist, goes to the ruins of a Native American burial ground in Charleston, SC to teach an archeological field school for UNC-Charlotte. But old bones are supplanted by the discovery of “new” ones, and Tempe is pressed to help her local coroner friend investigate.

Staying in the home of her coroner friend, Tempe has her animals, former husband and current boyfriend under-foot as more and more bodies surface. She struggles to cover for her sick friend, find the truth of the deaths and bring justice and respect to those who died.
