What if you got to know someone you thought you hated?

by Rachel Baker on August 21, 2013

I recently read Speaker for the Dead by Orson Scott Card and thought I’d share a quote I liked.  It reads:

When you really know somebody, you can’t hate them. Or maybe its just that you can’t really know them until you stop hating them.

There’s a whole lot of groups and individuals who should spend some quality and meaningful time getting to know people who they think they hate. The news would probably be a whole less negative if people spent more time finding things they had in common than starting the conversations with the things they don’t.

If you haven’t read Speaker for the Dead, I encourage you to.  It would help to read Ender’s Game first, but I don’t think its a requirement to understand and get the full impact of the book.
