What causes that Old Musty smell?

by Rachel Baker on October 7, 2014

This is a fantastic article about what causes books to smell old or new, respectively. Its from a site called Compound Interest – Everyday Exploration of Chemical Compounds. The site is run by a chemistry teacher in the UK. He creates graphics that looks at the chemistry and the chemical reactions we come across on a day-to-day basis. I think it just might be one of the my new favorite sites!

Read about What Causes the Smell of New & Old Books and don’t forget to take a look at the infographic – it will help you answer the question from the kids about what that smell is after you’ve opened a box of your grandma’s books you’ve had in your attic for several years.
