Maurice Sendak has gone to Where the Wild Things Are

by Rachel Baker on May 8, 2012

For those who do not know, Sendak was the author of Where the Wild Things Are and approximately 22 other books, illustrator for approximately 78 books/stories, and had 4 filmography credits ranging from the 1973 version of Where the Wild Things Are to the 2010 film Higglety Pigglety Pop! or There Must Be More to Life. Prior to Where the Wild Things Are, he was the illustrator of the Little Bear series. Here’s a link to the Amazon Page that shows all his works.

The NY Times has a wonderful article and there’s nothing more I could add.  Please read it.  I’m sure there will be others over the course of the day, but this was the first I’ve seen.

Update: Here’s the announcement from msnbc/Today.  There’s a video and lots of extra clipping links to other stories.

…and he sailed off through night and day

and in and out of weeks

and almost over a year

to where the wild things are.
