Francine Prose and Ayana Mathis: Scariest Book They’ve Ever Read

This is a pretty interesting NYTimes Bookends, this week. Occassionally, I consider how truly horrifying fairy tales can be; but its always a fleeting thought, nothing more. Francine Prose references Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tales as being her scariest book. Ayana Mathis’s scariest book is “Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry” by Mildred D. Taylor; and it spoke to her on a more personal level.
