I have exactly the same reaction to The Sister that you do. Very frustrating novel, but I agree with you that it was a good one, just bursting with loose ends.

I wrote a very long review of it on the Writers Are Readers website (<a href="http://www.writersarereaders.com/manningadamsthesister.html" rel="nofollow">www.WritersAreReaders.com</a>). I think was attempting to sort it all out with a view to figuring it out, but I believe I did not succeed :-)

Thank you for this review. I couldn't have said it better myself, and I am an erstwhile Seattle Times book reviewer.

These are great suggestions to encourage reading! I love the summer library programs too, and always participated when I was a kid. My son did as well, and it was a great way to keep reading going all summer long.

Another way I rewarded reading with my son was to let him stay up later than usual (provided he used the extra time for reading). And I read aloud books that might be considered above his reading level. He liked to draw or even play quietly with cars or Lego's while I read.

Great post!

just finished christ the lord "out of eygpt a novel", i have to say I did not find it as addictive as the rest of the novels that I have read by anne rice " The vampire chronicles and The Mayfair Witches Saga" which by the way I would go out of my way to look for but I did find it interesting so I look forward to reading The Road to Cann with the hope it can captivate me.

Comment on Buy Local from Indie Booksellers by Michelle

I too admire the indie book sellers who have held their ground amidst the onslaught of mega-bookstores. I spent more than a few rainy afternoons in Village Books where much texture was layered on my college years in Bellingham, Washington. This place definitely qualified as an old musty bookstore, located in a historic building with the requisite old plank floors, exposed beams and crumbly brick walls.

When I travel, I do my best to find these hold-outs that serve as a center for the underground communities that I have enjoyed tapping into over the years. I recently stumbled across Malaprop's Bookstore while visiting Asheville, NC and I felt like I was walking through the doors of the Village Bookstore once again. I would strongly recommend a visit to any of your readers that visit the Asheville area.

I would love to see a traveler's list of indie bookstores from around the country if your readers would be willing to share their favorites.

Hi Janet, and welcome! I just checked. You can find the review on amazon - it should be the 4th review on the product page. I try to put most of the reviews here at amazon. I completely agree with you about the importance of posting reviews there.

Thank you for the kind words and I hope you continue to enjoy the content here.

Please do post your review on Amazon.com. I bought the book solely on your recommendation and I LOVED it. I buy mostly all of my books from Amazon these days so the recommendations I find there are so important for me in finding good titles. Keep up the good work and the good reading!

Hi RR, and welcome to my humble abode,

Without a doubt the writing was/is phenomenal. Its funny, this book is still sitting on my bookstack, instead of on the "I'm done reading" pile. I keep looking over at it, almost wistfully, thinking about reading Hema and Kaushik again. I wonder how long before I'll be ready to move it to the completed pile.

Yes, the ending of H&K was crushing. I love a story that builds you up with hope, and then snaps you back to the reality of the situation!
